Powers Taylor Nominated for DTLA John Howie Award

We’re honored to announce that our firm has been nominated for the prestigious John Howie Award by the Dallas Trial Lawyers Association (DTLA).

What this nomination means

The John Howie Award is presented each year to a DTLA member and their client for “the courageous pursuit of justice in the face of adversity.”

Being nominated for this honor reflects our commitment to fighting for our clients when it matters most — when the stakes are high, the odds are tough, and justice demands persistence.

Why we’re proud

In 2024, our team, along with Trey Allen of Allen & Nolte, undertook a trial that exemplifies exactly the kind of advocacy this award celebrates. We represented the widow of a 72-year-old man who passed away after overdosing on morphine. We stood up against a doctor at a large hospital system in DFW to ensure our client’s voice was heard and their rights were protected.

Our process included:

  • Thorough preparation and investigation, even when the path wasn’t straightforward
  • Taking on the challenge of trial after the doctor refused to settle
  • Remaining committed to our client’s goal—securing accountability, not just a check mark
  • Navigating the complexities of litigation with integrity, professionalism, and empathy

Our commitment to our clients

This nomination is a reminder of our guiding principles:

  • Relentless advocacy — We don’t shy away because something is hard; we push ahead because it matters.
  • Client-first focus — Every client is more than a case number. Their life, livelihood, dignity matter.
  • Ethical leadership — We believe in doing right by our clients, and by the process of justice.
  • Accountability — When someone is harmed, someone should be accountable. We work to make that happen.

We are grateful to the Dallas Trial Lawyers Association for the nomination, and to our clients for their trust in us. We also recognize the many professionals — co-counsel, investigators, experts, staff — who make our work possible. And finally, to all the individuals who face adversity and still choose to seek justice: you inspire us.
