The verdict amount was enough to land the No. 58 spot in Texas in 2017 according to TopVerdict.com. During the trial, Mark Taylor and the Powers Taylor team were able to convince the Tarrant County jury to award their client for medical expenses, loss of earning capacity, physical pain and mental anguish, physical impairment, and disfigurement. Her leg was amputated after her doctor told the client she had osteomyelitis. It wasn’t until after the amputation and later testing that they figured out she had a staph infection, not osteomyelitis.
After the verdict was rendered in February 2017, Mr. Taylor said, “We are thrilled with the result, and our client is glad to finally get closure. Although tort reform in Texas medical malpractice law makes these types of cases difficult to pursue, Powers Taylor LLP believes that jury verdicts like this will serve as a reminder that doctors who fail to confirm their diagnoses through readily-available tests will be held accountable for their mistakes.”
